Our team was excited to deliver STEM training to 35 fifth-grade students on the basics of electricity, electronics, and grid-scale power systems. This was aided through development of our Microgrid-On-a-Desk (MOD), sponsored by the Office of Naval Research. We were excited to co-deliver the training with Arizona Public Service – APS to help connect students with occupations in the electric power industry. The MOD hands-on training kit includes conventional generation, renewable generation, energy storage, and transmission and distribution systems. An accompanying tablet provides students with a gaming-style interface that walks participants through setup and control of electric power systems for on-grid and off-grid operation.
